Tietoa hoitajasta Heather
Hello! As a former pet owner, I understand how overwhelming it can be to sort through all of the petsitter profiles and choose the perfect person to keep your beloved companions company while you are away. That’s why I’m here and while I know I'm new here, but I can't wait to get started!
I am currently focusing exclusively on cats and as an avid animal-lover, my goal is to provide services and assurance that give both you and your cat peace of mind, leaving you both comfortable and happy!
Below, you'll find some more information about me, my experience, and approach! If you have any questions or would like to set up a time to meet, please don't hesitate to reach out!
My Pet-Sitting Approach
I intend to provide assurance by offering you the same professionalism I would have expected from a pet-sitter, including:
- A meet & greet to ensure compatiblity and ensure understanding of both you and your cat(s), including routines, schedules, likes, and dislikes.
- Providing pictures and updates (daily, or as agreed upon)! Being away is hard, but let me make it a little easier!
- Providing care to as to your specific instructions, including feeding, treats, cleaning etc.
- I will scoop litter daily (or as requested).
- Ensuring your home remains clean and tidy for the duration of my visit.
- Showing up on-time, in accordance with our agreed upon schedule.
- Gentle, relaxed interactions with your cat(s), ensuring the their space remains comfortable and low-stress.
About Me:
I have always loved animals - I was the girl who begged for a horse since the time she could talk and wanted to bring home every animal I came in contact with. But since love is only part of it, here's some pratical experience:
- I grew up in a home with both a cat - Cotton, an adorble black shorthair with a white bowtie mustache - and a dog - Smokey, a black, spunky german shepard mix. I learned from a young age respect and gentleness.
- I adopted a horse - Caddy, a firey chestnut Arabian mare - right after graduating college and owned her for 10 years, ensuring she was always well-groomed, fed, and exercised. In her senior years, I visited her 3x a day to keep a close eye on her health and provide a mid-day lunch to ensure she was maintaining weight, espeically throughout the winter. I also treated minor cuts and eye issues as necessary.
- I adopted a small kitten - Ace, a black and white shorthair - who fell out of trash truck and became my shadow. He and I enjoyed many days hanging out snuggled up together while I worked from home.
- I adopted a second small kitten - Nala, a longhaired tabby - who was the sweetest lap cat. She loved a good cuddle, even convincing a few non-cat lovers to sit with her. Her long hair required frequent brushing.
- My spouse and I adopted a dog - JJ, a blind greyhoud dog. I worked with him starting at 1 year old, teaching him how to go up and down stairs, sit (unnatural for a greyhound), laydown, shake, and play dead. From our training, he learned voice cues as well, such as "step", "watch out", and "wait", ensuring his safety and happiness. As greyhounds have very thin skin, I also have experience in minor first-aid, treating and wrapping small scrapes and cuts.
- I have worked on several horse farms, helping provide care for up to 15 horses including hay, water, stall cleaning, blanketing, and turnout.
- From a professional standpoint, I hold and engineering degree and have 15 years professional work experience as an engineering project manager, mainly in the nuclear industry. Because of this, you can rest assured I can clearly communicate, problem solve, and act professionally.
- My spouse and I recently relocated to Helsinki for his work, and I'd love to spend my time providing reliable in-home care for your pets!
What I Need From You
- Likes and dislikes of both you and your pet.
- Detailed pet routine, schedule, and food information.
- Contact information for you while away.
- Veterinary preferences and contact information.
- At least two emergency contacts, in case you are unreachable.
Schedule
I would be happy to discuss your needs and schedule! My schedule is currently somewhat flexible, as I am not currently working; however, I do have a few upcoming courses planned, and would be unavailbe to visit during these times:
- Mondays & Wednesdays - 14:00-16:30
I would still be happy to discuss pet-sitting in your home or drop in visits on these days, with the understanding I will not be in the home during the hours listed above.
Note: As an American with a Finnish residence permit, I am fluent in English and currently working on my Finnish (A1.1, beginner level). I am happy to accept roles working with familes in any language, but want to be clear about my current communication capablities. I also do not own a car, so your residence needs to be accesible via public transportation/bike.
Additionally, if you, or someone you know is looking for horse care, I would be happy to discuss!
